Worker Retraining Program

Worker Retraining is a state funded program that provides job-related training and employment services to dislocated and unemployed workers to help them gain additional training in their existing field or get started on a new career path. Training is available in any one of our 52 Professional/Technical Programs. Students can choose to take occupational supplemental classes to upgrade their skills; earn a certificate or AAAS degree. Free tuition and books are provided through this program and are typically available for up to two quarters or more depending on funding resources and ability to create other funding options.

Eligibility

  • Be a Washington State Resident
  • Be a dislocated worker who is eligible for Washington State unemployment benefits Or currently receiving unemployment benefits Or have exhausted unemployment benefits within the past 24 months. Or be a Displaced Homemaker Or a self-employed individual who has lost their business due to poor economic conditions or a natural disaster
  • To receive funding, you must be enrolled for at least 6 credits each quarter in a Professional/Technical program.

To get started, attend a one and a half - hour weekly orientation:

When: Every Wednesday from 2:00 - 3:30, please call call 546-5882 before attending as cancellations may occur.

Where: Building and Room will vary each quarter (Fall Qtr. 2006, Rm. 2920). Please call (206) 546-5882 to confirm before attending.

Parking: Please park in the visitor parking lot and go to security in the south end of the 900 building for a free parking pass, or pay at the entrance and park in student parking.

CAT/TB
* CAT: Commissioner Approved Training or CAT allows an individual to attend full-time training and continue to collect Unemployment Insurance. If you are approved for CAT your work search requirement is waived while enrolled in classes. CAT is intended to provide an individual with skills necessary to obtain or retain stable employment.
* TB: Training Benefits or TB can increase the total number of weeks you are eligible to draw benefits if you are attending full-time approved training.
