PERSONAL COMPUTER SKILLS – BASICS
Workshop materials: All books and materials for
workshops are distributed at the first meeting
and are covered by workshop fees unless
otherwise indicated.
SKILL LEVELS:
Beginner 1: No experience necessary.
Beginner 2: Keyboard experience using a mouse
required.
Intermediate: Working knowledge of Windows
compatible software required.
Advanced: Currently proficient and seeks
advanced use of software features.
COMPUTER BOOT CAMP
Welcome to the world of computers! We'll start
with basic terms, progress to elementary
exercises using a mouse, the desktop, and the
taskbar. Before long you will be typing letters,
surfing the Internet, and sending your friends
and family email messages with attachments and
photos. No computer experience required.
Workbook provided. Beginner level 1.

hackers. Whether you are shopping online,
sending email, or just surfing the net, these
annoyances can slow your computer’s performance
and compromise your personal information and
records. Learn how to prevent and fix existing
problems by utilizing updates, patches,
anti-virus software, firewalls, system and
document passwords and much more. Understand the
threats, how intruders access your information,
and what you can do about it. Basic familiarity
with computers required.

BEFORE THE CRASH: BACKING UP YOUR HARD DRIVE
If you have important documents saved on your
computer, it's important to know that your files
are backed up. This course will discuss
different methods of backing up your pictures,
music and data files (like word processing,
spreadsheets, accounting, graphics etc.). We
will discuss different media with which to
backup your data, like CDs, DVDs, USB drives and
external and internal hard drives. A variety of
backup programs will be used to demonstrate
backing up files and data.
