and Career Pathways Chart Two-Year Programs These two year programs provide both a theoretical foundation as well as the hands-on experience needed to succeed in industry.
Bates Technical College offers a 22-month program leading to an Associate of Technology degree or a Certificate of Training (requiring completion of fewer credits). No prior science experience or training is required and Bates Technical College guarantees its career training. Bates offers open enrollment so you can start the program on any Monday from September to July.
Seattle Central Community College offers a two-year Biotechnology Training Program with an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree. SCCC has articulation agreements with several four-year institutions. Students graduate from SCCC's program with a strong knowledge of laboratory sciences and crucial hands-on skills and training (including an internship) needed for entry-level employment in the rapidly growing Biotech Industry.
The program at Shoreline Community College provides broad-based training to prepare students for careers in the biotechnology industry with a focus on the needs of the local industry. The program goal is to provide practical knowledge, hands-on learning and familiarity with cutting edge techniques, technologies, and equipment. Students take courses and complete and internship leading to either an Associate's degree or a Certificate of Proficiency. There are several universities and colleges in Washington providing Bachelor of Science degrees which prepare students for careers in the biotechnology industry. Appropriate areas of focus for these degrees include: Biology with an emphasis in Biotechnology, Cell and Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Microbiology or Biology.
The Program in Biotechnology at Seattle Pacific University is designed to aid students in acquiring the conceptual knowledge and fundamental laboratory skills needed to embark on a biotechnology-related career. The program offers specific interdisciplinary tracks leading to a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology, Biochemistry, or Chemistry with emphasis in biotechnology. The BS Biology track has been specifically constructed to articulate with two-year biotechnology programs in the region. Washington State University - School of Molecular Biosciences Biotechnology is a rapidly growing and expanding field. There are many opportunities in the Puget Sound area for those working in the field who want to gain new skills to remain competitive. Skill Upgrade Training for Technicians and Research Assistants This ongoing training program helps technicians and research assistants expand and update their skill base and enhance their employability. Taught by industry experts in the evenings or on weekends, courses include Regulatory Affairs, High Performance Liquid Chromatography, Flow Cytometry, Cloning and Expression, and Bioinformatics. The specific classes offered change as the needs of the local industry change. Advanced Training for Scientists University of Washington - Biomedical Regulatory Affairs Industry Overview Shoreline Community College offers a survey course in biotechnology that provides an overview of the field.
